Dear Applicant,

RE:  Part time (0.4) temporary teaching role at Grasmere School and Nursery

RE: Part time (18 hours per week, 39 weeks of the year) temporary senior teaching assistant role at Grasmere School and Nursery

Thank you very much for your interest in these posts.  We hope that this letter gives you all the information you need.

The teaching role is a job share teaching role in a mixed year 3 / 4 class.  The teaching hours required will be Monday and Tuesday.  The teacher on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is an excellent and extremely experienced teacher.

The teaching assistant role will be mainly in the mixed year 3 / 4 class, and partially elsewhere in the school.  Our teaching assistants have a wide range of expertise, and you would be joining this team, which supports across the school, both academically and pastorally.

We are advertising these roles together, as it is possible that someone may wish to apply for both roles together.

These are both temporary posts, based on a temporary staffing structure.  It may be extended beyond the year, but this cannot be guaranteed at this stage.

Ours is a small school by national standards.  We have about 80 children, including those in nursery.  The children are taught in 4 classes (EYFS, Y1/2, Y3/4, Y5/6).   Our last six Ofsted reports (under our current headteacher) have been either outstanding or good/outstanding. We would like a team member who is hugely ambitious for all our children, but who also has a wise head, and a positive, balanced attitude.  We have no preconceived ideas about who we need, or how much experience they should have.  So please share your enthusiasms and vision for education with us, whatever stage you are at in your career. This role is as important to the future success of our school as that of any other member of our team.   We’re a happy, hard-working, supportive group, composed of many different characters and strengths.  We have a lot of fun.  Now we’re looking for another creative individual or individuals, who love teaching and learning, and wants to be in an environment where we, the professionals, set the educational agenda for our children.  Our website and Facebook page are a good place to find out what we’re all about.

Please contact admin@grasmere.cumbria for full job descriptions and application form. You may also wish to visit the school, or to phone / email with questions.  Please contact Jonathan Smith (our School Business Manager) or Jo Goode (our head teacher) with queries or to make an appointment. We would love to meet you.  We are aware that many potential candidates may not be able to visit.  Attendance on a visit won’t influence the outcome of applications; they are intended as an opportunity for you to see if your ethos matches ours, before you decide to apply.

Please send completed applications electronically to by midnight on Friday 29th April.  If you already have a completed form which replicates all the information asked for on our application form, you are welcome to send that.  We just ask that you make your ‘additional information’ relevant to our school and this post.

We will shortlist on Friday 6th May, and inform shortlisted candidates that evening.  References will be taken up for shortlisted candidates, after shortlisting.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview on Friday 13th May.

The interview day will include a teaching activity (if not already observed), a ‘formal’ interview, a short ‘assessment for learning’ task, and a chance to meet members of the school council.  You will be required to bring proof of qualifications and identity to interview.

Our school vision:

All members of the school community will:

  • support each others’ growth in a spirit of loving responsibility
  • ask wonderful questions
  • be able to respond to all the challenges they face in life honourably, courageously, positively, ambitiously and creatively

If you share these aims, we would love to receive your application.

Yours faithfully,

Johanna Goode
